I suggest this as a great first step because the FAA has restrictions on which medical situations disqualify you from flying. All airline pilots are required to hold a First Class Medical and they are renewed every year or 6 months depending on age. The FAA Website will help you find a doctor close to you.
There are two paths you can take to become a pilot: Military or Civilian. Both options are great and allow people from all walks of life to become a pilot. Military pilots trade time served for your country for ratings and flight time. It is a longer path but most pilots leave the military straight for major airline carriers and other great career companies. Civilian pilots can enter the general workforce quicker but incur much higher costs.
This career field can be tough to navigate and there are a lot questions in the beginning. Once you have narrowed down what path you would like to take, we can get you in contact with a pilot who has taken that route. We have been lucky enough to be contacted by pilots all over the industry and they are excited to help the next generations.
Most civilian programs cost at least $85,000 to get you to a level to start making money in the industry. Aviation is not treated like a typical college loan and interest rates can be quite high. Scholarships and Cadet programs can help. We will be adding scholarships as we find them.
